Ruby on Rails Engineer

Priority #1 is that you want to join our company on a yacht in the Mediterranean, skiing in Aspen, safari in Tanzania, Oktoberfest in Munich, Carnival in Rio, scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef, and other amazing vacations. Priority #2 is that you are fun, know how to get things done, and love the startup atmosphere. Priority #3 is that you are a superior engineer, with exceptionally strong technical skills, and the ability to work quickly. After that, it would be nice if you want to join us in making a fortune and quickly lead a full engineering team.

Our existing business and growth path is not matched by our current website. You will help transform it into the next version with new features, an improved user experience, and tools for massive scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Full web product engineering, front and back end
  • Build scalable database structure
  • Iterate designs quickly, taking into account user feedback
  • After success with initial engineering, build a full programming and engineering team, and potentially assume CTO responsibilities
  • Contribute to business strategy
  • Transform the travel industry
  • Drink cocktails on a sailboat

Experience

  • Strong experience in startup engineering, preferably in the social network realm
  • Demonstrated record of savvy work in technology, design, and business
  • Must display exceptional portfolio of previous web engineering work
  • Must demonstrate strong skills in building scalable database-driven web sites
  • Complete knowledge of Facebook API and other social networking integration
  • Management and technical recruiting experience is a plus, but not essential
  • Familiarity with SEO, testing for optimization, and web analytics is a plus

Skills

  • Hands-on coder with strong technical skills in all aspects of web engineering
  • Ability to brainstorm and quickly prototype new approaches
  • Current site is Ruby on Rails stack
  • UI/UX design talent; layout and style are second nature - you don’t produce ugly designs
  • Excellent communications skills, including translating between technical and English
  • Work hard, driven, motivated, can-do attitude
  • Play hard and team player
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, unstructured, creative environment

  • Hands-on coder with strong technical skills in front-end web development

  • Creative javascript and jquery development
  • UI/UX design talent; layout and style are second nature - you don’t produce ugly designs

  • Highly skilled at vacationing
  • Meaningful experience planning group vacations
  • Exceptionally strong professional and organizational skills, including leadership, communications, planning, and an ability to meet deadlines
  • You know that to start the flow of oxygen you pull the mask towards you

Our nation of highly social active adventurers maintains diplomatic relations with like-minded people in cities worldwide. Our relations are strained, though, with office-dwellers and couch potatoes. To strengthen our nation, Ambassadors must reach out to compatriots in their cities, throw lavish parties, and enthrall guests with tales of far-flung adventure.

Qualifications:

  • No venue in your city can fit the people who come to your events
  • You have an eye for travel and adventure themes
  • Strong personal and networking talents, including building relationships with local venues and partners
  • Exceptional organizational and event-planning skills, including marketing, planning, and management

  • Your last creation moved viewers to tears (in a good way)
