Vanessa became a Certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor in 2010, graduating from Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, USA, an experience she describes as truly life changing. She went on to complete her 500hr Professional Level Yoga Teacher Certification, also through Kripalu, in order to enrich her knowledge of meditation, pranayama (breathing techniques) as well as “advanced” postures and techniques of practice.
The type of class she has developed through teaching and practice is what she calls Kripalu Flow. Vanessa describes her classes as “Gentle Flow With and Edge”. Kripalu Yoga is traditionally considered a compassionate form of practice. It is also thought of as a yoga of inquiry, giving the student opportunity to explore variations of poses as well as modifications. It is the intention of these practices that students be in the investigation of what works, what doesn’t work, what might work as well as to be in this conversation of practice with compassionate awareness, kind attention and loving presence.
You will be offered opportunity in Vanessa’s classes to stretch, relax, breathe, gain strength and flexibility while also exploring your edge. Classes are for all “levels” of practitioners, from first time yogis to those who have had a practice for years!
Vanessa enjoys leading retreats internationally, morphing her love of yoga with her love of travel and new experience. She lives and teaches on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard where she feeds her practice, life and spirit through the nature that surrounds. The birds, the ocean breezes, the sun, the sand, the trees, the blue sky, it is what feeds her soul. Such an overflowing of life and nature is what you will find in Costa Rica. Vanessa's first trip to this magical land was in 2013 and she instantly fell in love with the people, the nature, the wildlife, the abundance of culture and joy of life that this country exudes. She has returned twice more since, to share the adventure of retreat, and all that is yoga with those interested in diving in to refill their well. Come reinvigorate your inspiration of life in this magical place through this ancient practice! Let Costa Rica renew your spirit! Pura Vida!

Wonderful time! The resort was beautiful and there was enough flexibility to enjoy excursions, workouts and relaxing time. It was safe/easy to get around and the cost for excursions was very reasonable.
My first Trip Tribe was amazing and I can't wait to sign up for another one. I've always wanted to do a yoga retreat and have always wanted to go to Costa Rica. So this experience was once in a lifetime. I loved being active and healthy on vacation while discovering new places. I hope to do this once a year with my sister, Dawn. We are hoping to sign up for one in Tulum, Mexico.
This was the most unforgettable, life-changing trips I couldn't have even imagined in my dreams! I absolutely fell in love with this gorgeous, sustainable country, with the best of all worlds, the rain forest, the jungle, the most beautiful beaches, all with a government who protects their natural resources and allows no hunting of any kind. From the most kind and friendly people who also speak English, to the most beautiful natural playground, I am in awe of this culture and can hardly wait to go back! We faced our fears, had the most fun activities, and most gorgeous venue all to ourselves. THANK YOU and PURA VIDA!!!
My trip was awesome with Sara ( fabulous Yoga instructor) in Esterillos Este, Costa Rica and our activities were just fabulous with our 2 adventurous trips to the Rain Forest and Rain Forest hiking, zip lining, floating down the rapids, and repelling. Recommend Esterillos Este and the Encantada Ocean Cottages for everyone. Amazing time!!
The owners and the staff of the resort were outstanding! It was a wonderful experience!
Beyond my expectations, & Amazing!! The Coziest and Friendliest place I have ever stayed! :)
I was the Ambassador and instructor during this retreat and I am extremely happy at how everything turned out. I will definitely be using Trip Tribe again for future retreats!
Esterillos Este is a very special place, ideal for a yoga retreat. The owners and their team worked very hard to make us feel welcome and cared for. The fish (oh, the fish) was amazing, as were the fruits and vegetables. Without hormones and GMOS, the real taste of the food could emerge. Chrissy Gonzalez is a teacher to follow.
Costa Rica trip was amazing. The food was healthy and good.
My trip was fantastic. Costa Rica is amazing clean with a laid back vibe.....PURA VIDA! I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the beach/ocean, the stars at night, the people and food.
Loved, loved, loved Costa Rica and its people. The accommodations were nice, comfortable, and clean. The food was healthy and fantastic! Chrissy has a wonderful spirit and is one of my favorite yoga instructors. I'm lucky that I get to continue to practice with her in Chicago, but I'll miss looking at and listening to the ocean while doing yoga... something everyone should experience! GREAT trip!
Costa Rica is also called the ´Switzerland of Latin America¨ - the people I met there were all friendly, considerate, and respectful. Sergio, our airport-hotel-airport driver, took such good care of the group assigned to his route! He cheerfully stopped on the way from San Jose to Esterillos at a local pharmacy (unfortunately, one of the participants arrived with flu symptoms, but happily recovered after a couple of healthy living days) and from there at a typical local restaurant for a restoring “casado” a Costa Rican meal using rice, black beans, plantains, salad, a tortilla, and your choice of fish, chicken, pork, or beef (addicting!). Sergio told us that Costa Rica is such a peaceful country they don’t require armed forces. You will become familiar with the greeting or toast: “Pura Vida”, which means pure life, or good life, and quickly appreciate why it’s used so often.
We were surrounded by gorgeous plants, treated to tropical fruits (the mangos!) and vegetables that grow in abundance; healthy eating is just a way of life. We drove through rainforests, amazing landscapes, everything lush and flourishing. Our visit to Manuel Antonio National Park put us in direct view of howler monkeys, sleepy sloths, a flash of macaws and beautiful butterflies skimming the sky – ending with a swim in Playa Espadilla’s gentle waters. Another day excursion took us to Nauyaca Falls, truly a breathtaking experience. Two cascades plunge 200 feet into a cool swimming pond, providing extraordinary picture taking opportunities. We explored Dominical, a laidback waterfront community with artsy hippie vibes.
Words fail me in describing my experience at Encantada Beach Cottages, but I will do my best to try. Let’s start with hospitality: the generous reception received from Tiffany, Nome, Adam, Katie, Elena, Daniel and all the property staff. Yeats quote describes it perfectly: there are no strangers here; only friends you haven't yet met. Every day I was surrounded by kind and generous acts; freely given without expectations. The property grounds are a source of so much beauty and serenity. Especially for those who are able to free their minds and spirits from agitation, to leave superficiality and things which are not authentic aside, to fully embrace the peace found in gazing at the ocean and allowing the crooning of its waves to lull you… The cottages are charmingly appointed; the property grounds are beautifully maintained. The pool is crystal clear and inviting; plenty of comfortable lounges and hammocks for lazy afternoon naps.
The food prepared by Elena and Daniel is extraordinary; Costa Rica flourishes with magnificent tropical fruits (mangoes, papaya, melons, bananas, kiwi, guanábana, and pineapple) and glorious vegetables locally and organically grown. Every meal is accompanied by a glass of freshly made fruit juice. Freshly caught Red Snapper, Marlin, Tuna, shrimp – need I say more? And for those who like me, enjoy cocktails: Daniel can concoct the best margaritas and daiquiris. A good night’s rest is assured by the coziest beds, pillows, and sun fresh linens. Encantada has several interpretations in English; the most appropriate for this property would be enchanted, better yet, magical.
The inspiration for my stay was a Yoga retreat fittingly named “Awakening the Spirit”. Undoubtedly, many of the gifts I returned home with were a result not only of Chrissy Gonzalez, the yogini that led the retreat, and whose words travel straight to the heart of her students – but of the combination of observing the daily practice in perfect surroundings. Time flows effortlessly at Encantada; there are no judgments made about anyone. Worries and fears are lost; love takes over behavior patterns. Without being aware of it, a smile settles on your face.
