About me: I am an E-RYT, Assistant to Tiffany Cruikshank and the Yoga Medicine® team, and pursuing my 500- and 1000-hour certifications with Tiffany Cruikshank and Yoga Medicine®. I’m also proud to be a lululemon® Ambassador.
Outside of the yoga studio, I’m Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University and Senior Research Scientist at Rhode Island Hospital. With a PhD in Psychology, I am extremely active in mental health research, focusing on how our internal biology and our external physical environment (including yoga, mindfulness, and meditation) can interact to positively change our mental health landscape.
My teaching style: Your yoga mat is a safe and sacred space. Honoring that space and cultivating JOY in that space is a priority. I use a light-hearted and energetic approach to cultivate this environment in class. In addition to creative, purposeful, and fun(!) sequencing, I incorporate elements of body alignment, core strength and intention setting to help students find success, whether in basic or more challenging asanas (poses). You will never feel pressured to do anything that you don’t want to do and my objective is that all students leave smiling, joyful, and invigorated (and maybe having learned something new)!
My sincere hope is that, while the physical asana practice might be your introduction to yoga (as it was for me), you will, through your yoga practice, find a sacred and connected space to move beyond the asanas. A place to unite body, mind, and spirit in a truly authentic and joyful way, guided by spirit and gratitude.
