Living in the SF Bay Area, Marti Foster was my first teacher and she taught me the importance of body alignment, and added the fun of great New Age music, elements of dance and acrobatics, and accessible spirituality.
When I moved back to Vancouver, I trained with the inspirational Mary-Jo Fetterly and completed my 200 hour certification through Trinity Yoga.
I mostly teach mixed-level power yoga, with mindfulness and modifications for each posture to accommodate a wide range of body types, fitness levels and physical ailments. “Power yoga” can be a vigorous workout, where a number of postures are done in sequence, coordinated with breathwork and while engaging stabilizing muscles, in order to heat up the body so that the muscles can stretch and allow the body’s posture to realign.
I also love teaching a slower, more meditative hatha class, as well as Yin Yoga (deep long-held postures that focus on releasing connective tissue), therapeutic stretch, and restorative.
I have always loved art, and have attended SJSU & CCAC in San Francisco with a focus on painting and color. I am currently a Grumbacher-certified instructor, leading drawing and painting classes in West Vancouver. My next learning will be in the area of Reiki, which I feel will be a great addition to my healing toolbox.
When I am not practicing or teaching yoga, I am traveling the world, painting (or teaching others how to), and spending time laughing and learning with my husband and 2 kids.
